DEFINITION: The courtesy lamps are inoperative from the dimmer switch.

Did you perform the Lighting System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  2. Close all the doors and turn the I/P lamp dimmer switch to the DOME position.
  3. Determine if all the following lamps operative from the dimmer switch.
  4. • Ignition switch lamp
    • Foot well courtesy lamps
    • Roof rail courtesy/reading lamp
    • Inside rear view mirror
    • Vanity mirror lamps

Are all these courtesy lamps ON?

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

  1. Close all the doors and turn the dimmer switch to the OFF position.
  2. Operate the following lamps from their individual switches.
  3. • Roof rail courtesy/reading lamps
    • Inside rear view mirror
    • Vanity mirror lamps

Are the courtesy lamps operational from their individual switches.

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 10

Determine which of the following lamps are inoperative from the dimmer switch.

    • Ignition switch lamp
    • Foot well courtesy lamps
    • Roof rail courtesy/reading lamp
    • Inside rear view mirror
    • Vanity mirror lamps

Are all of these lamps inoperative from the dimmer switch?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn ignition switch to the RUN position, with the engine OFF.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Courtesy Switch Input data.
  3. Turn the dimmer switch to the DOME position.

Does the scan tool indicate that the courtesy switch input is ON?

Go to Step 13

Test for an open or high resistance in the courtesy lamp switch signal circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 17

Test for an open or high resistance in the dimmer switch fuse supply voltage circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Determine which courtesy lamp is inoperative.
  2. Remove the inoperative courtesy lamp bulb.
  3. Probe the courtesy lamps supply voltage circuit of the inoperative courtesy lamp bulb with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Probe the courtesy lamp low control circuit of the inoperative courtesy lamp bulb with a test lamp that is connected to a battery positive voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 14

Test for an open or high resistance in the individual switch ground circuit of the inoperative courtesy lamp. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for an open or high resistance in the courtesy lamp supply voltage circuit of the inoperative courtesy lamp. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for an open or high resistance in the courtesy lamp low control circuit of the inoperative courtesy lamp. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Important: Perform the set up procedure for the body control module.

Replace the body control module (BCM). Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Replace the inoperative courtesy lamp bulb. Refer to the appropriate procedure:

    • Replace the inoperative ignition switch lamp. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Door Lock Cylinder Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
    • Replace the foot well courtesy lamp bulb. Refer to Instrument Panel Courtesy Lamp Bulb Replacement .
    • Replace the roof rail courtesy/reading lamp bulb. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement .
    • Replace the inside rear view mirror. Refer to Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement in Stationary Windows.
    • Replace the Vanity mirror lamp bulb. Refer to Sunshade Illuminated Mirror Lamp Bulb Replacement .

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 17

Replace the inoperative courtesy lamp assemble. Refer to the appropriate procedure:

    • Replace the roof rail courtesy/reading lamp. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement .
    • Replace the inside rear view mirror. Refer to Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement in Stationary Windows.
    • Replace the sunshade assembly. Refer to Sunshade Replacement in Interior Trim.

Did you complete the repair?

Replace the dimmer switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Multifunction Switch Assembly Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 17

  1. Connect all the connectors and components that were disconnected.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK
