J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  3. Remove the vacuum brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.

  4. Object Number: 532742  Size: SH
  5. Remove the accumulator clip.

  6. Object Number: 409336  Size: SH
  7. Loosen the accumulator tube nut at the accumulator (2).
  8. Disconnect the accumulator tube from the accumulator.

  9. Object Number: 532742  Size: SH
  10. Remove the accumulator tube to evaporator core block fitting bolt.
  11. Disconnect the accumulator tube from the evaporator.
  12. Remove the accumulator tube.
  13. Remove the O-ring seal and discard.

Installation Procedure

    Important: The new O-ring seal must be coated with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  1. Install the new O-ring seal. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  2. Install the accumulator tube.

  3. Object Number: 532742  Size: SH
  4. Connect the accumulator tube to the evaporator.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the accumulator tube to evaporator core block fitting bolt.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator tube block fitting bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  8. Connect the accumulator tube to the accumulator (2).
  9. Tighten the accumulator tube nut at the accumulator.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator tube nut at the accumulator to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  11. Install the accumulator clip.
  12. Install the vacuum brake booster bracket. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement in Hydraulic Brackets.
  13. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  14. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  15. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .
