Cleaning Procedure
- Remove any sealant from the engine front cover.
- Clean out debris from the bolt holes.
- Clean the engine front cover in solvent.
Caution: Wear safety glasses in order to avoid eye damage.
- Dry the
engine front cover with compressed air.
Inspection Procedure
- Inspect the exterior of the engine front cover for the following conditions:
• | Damage to the water pump bolt hole threads (1) |
• | Gouges or damage to the water pump sealing surfaces (2) |
• | Damage to the drain plug or drain plug hole (3) |
• | Damage to the crankshaft front oil seal bore (4) |
• | Damage to the engine front cover bolt holes (5) |
• | Damage and/or corrosion to the engine coolant passage (6) |
• | Dents or damage to the exterior |
- Inspect the interior of the engine front cover for the following conditions:
• | Gouges or damage to the engine front cover sealing surfaces (1) |
• | Damage and/or corrosion to the engine coolant passage (2,
4, 5) |
• | Damage to the crankshaft front oil seal bore (3) |
- Repair or replace the engine front cover as necessary.
