Removal Procedure
- Partially drain the cooling
system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
- Remove the surge tank outlet hose. Refer to
Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Hose Replacement
.
- Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
- Remove the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical - 3.5L.
- Remove the idler pulley bolt and the pulley.
- Remove the water pump
pulley bolts.
- Remove the water pump pulley.
- Remove the long water
pump bolts (1).
- Remove the short water
pump bolts (1).
- Remove the water pump.
- Remove the water pump gasket.
- Clean and inspect the water pump mating surfaces.
Clean and inspect the water pump, if necessary. Refer to
Water Pump Cleaning and Inspection
.
Installation Procedure
- Install the water pump
gasket.
- Install the water pump.
- Loosely install the long water pump bolts.
- Loosely install the short water pump bolts.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the water
pump bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the water pump bolts to 14 N·m (124 lb in).
- Install the water pump pulley.
- Loosely install the water pump pulley bolts.
- Install the idler pulley and bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the idler pulley bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical - 3.5L.
- Install the water pump pulley bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
- Install the surge tank outlet hose. Refer to
Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Hose Replacement
.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
- Inspect for leaks.
