Damaged Cage Nut Service Front Cradle Nut

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure .
  2. Remove the bumper front impact bar. Refer to Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 163971  Size: SH
  4. Remove the frame bolt from the damaged frame crossmember nut.
  5. Break the spot welds on only one side of the frame crossmember nut retainer using a chisel.
  6. The frame crossmember nut retainer will be reused if it has not been damaged by the stripped out bolt.

  7. Pry the frame crossmember nut retainer upwards just far enough to remove the damaged nut.
  8. Remove the damaged frame crossmember nut.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 163971  Size: SH
  1. Install a new frame crossmember nut.
  2. Pry the frame crossmember nut retainer downwards against the frame.
  3. Make sure the frame crossmember nut moves freely between the frame crossmember and the retainer.

  4. Spot weld the frame crossmember nut retainer into place.
  5. Clean the welded surfaces.
  6. Apply a two-part catalyzed primer to the spot welded area with a brush.
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the new frame bolt.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the frame bolts to 180 N·m (133 lb ft).

  10. Install the front impact bar. Refer to Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement .
  11. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure .

Damaged Cage Nut Service Rear Cradle Nut

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 333118  Size: SH
  1. Remove the carpet retainer. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement in Interior Trim.
  2. Pull back the carpet and the sound deadener in order to provide access to the floor pan sheet metal.

  3. Object Number: 480156  Size: SH
  4. Locate the area directly above the cage (crossmember) nut.

  5. Object Number: 480165  Size: SH
  6. Use a cutoff wheel in order to cut a 100 mm (4 in) square access door.
  7. Pry the access door open.

  8. Object Number: 482315  Size: SH
  9. Use a chisel in order to break the spot welds (1) on one side of the frame crossmember nut retainer (3).
  10. Lift one side of the frame crossmember nut retainer.
  11. Remove the frame crossmember nut (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 482315  Size: SH
  1. Install the frame crossmember nut (2).
  2. Install and weld the frame crossmember nut retainer (3) to the original position.
  3. Weld the frame crossmember nut retainer to the original position.
  4. Clean the repair area.
  5. Apply the corrosion protection to the repair area. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair in Paint/Coatings
  6. Pry the access door back to the original position.
  7. Stitch weld the access door closed.
  8. Use a grinder in order to remove any rough edges.
  9. Apply the corrosion protection to the repair area. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair in Paint/Coatings.
  10. Move the sound deadener and the carpet back to the original position.
  11. Install the carpet retainer. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement in Interior Trim.
  12. Install the NEW frame rear bolt.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the NEW frame REAR bolt to 160 N·m (118 lb ft).

  14. Remove the utility stand.
