Removal Procedure

Notice: Use of harsh chemicals when cleaning can damage exterior lamps. Suggested cleaners are a mild soap and water, or Varnish Makers and Painters (VM&P) Naptha. VM&P Naptha is a specific type of naptha and should not be substituted by any other naptha.

  1. Open the rear compartment.
  2. Disconnect the high mounted stop lamp electrical connector from the rear compartment lid harness.

  3. Object Number: 182200  Size: SH
  4. Remove the rear spoiler stud to rear compartment lid retainers.
  5. Remove the rear spoiler stud to rear compartment lid nuts.
  6. Use the J 25070 to apply heat to the rear spoiler mounting points.
  7. Apply heat 152 mm (6 in) from the surface using a circular motion for about 30 seconds.

  8. Use a small plastic flat-bladed tool to lift the rear spoiler from the rear compartment lid being careful not to damage paint.
  9. Use a small flat-bladed tool to remove the high-mounted stop lamp harness and grommet from the rear compartment lid.
  10. Remove the rear spoiler from the rear compartment lid.
  11. Remove the retainers from the alignment slots in the rear compartment lid.
  12. Use 3M™ scotch brite molding adhesive remover disk 3M™  P/N 07501 or equivalent to clean the rear spoiler adhesive from the rear compartment lid and/or the rear spoiler.
  13. Use Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha or equivalent to clean the body panel.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the retainers into the alignment slots in the rear compartment lid.
  2. Install the high-mounted stop lamp harness and grommet to the rear compartment lid.
  3. Use the J 25070 to apply heat to the rear spoiler mounting points.
  4. Apply heat 152 mm (6 in) from the surface using a circular motion for about 30 seconds.

  5. Position forward studs of the rear spoiler into the clearance holes of the rear compartment lid.

    Important: Do not touch the adhesive backing.

  7. Peel the adhesive backing from the mounting surfaces of the rear end spoiler.
  8. Apply even pressure to the rear spoiler to allow for proper adhesion to the rear compartment lid.

  10. Install the rear spoiler stud to rear compartment lid retainers.

  11. Object Number: 182185  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  12. Install the rear spoiler stud to rear compartment lid nuts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the rear spoiler stud to rear compartment lid nuts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  14. Connect the high mounted stop lamp electrical connector to rear compartment lid harness.
  15. Close the rear compartment.
