Rear Door Energy Absorber Pad Replacement Trim Panel

Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle has energy-absorbing foam blocks for side impact protection. To help avoid personal injury in a collision, foam blocks that are damaged, or removed during repairs must be replaced. Failure to replace foam blocks that are removed can violate federal law.

  1. Remove the rear door trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
  2. Remove the screws which secure the energy absorber pads to the door trim panel.
  3. Remove the energy absorber pads from the door trim panel.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the protective backing from the energy absorber pad adhesive strips.
  2. Important: Clean the trim panel with oil-free naphtha or alcohol.

  3. Install the energy absorber pads to the rear door trim panel.
  4. Apply pressure until the pad is fully seated to the rear door trim panel.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the screws which secure the energy absorber pads to the rear door trim panel.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  7. Install the rear door trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .

Rear Door Energy Absorber Pad Replacement Inner Door

J 25070 Heat Gun

Removal Procedure

Caution: This vehicle has energy-absorbing foam blocks for side impact protection. To help avoid personal injury in a collision, foam blocks that are damaged, or removed during repairs must be replaced. Failure to replace foam blocks that are removed can violate federal law.

  1. Remove the rear door trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
  2. Remove the rear door water deflector. Refer to Rear Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  3. Use a grease pencil in order to mark the location of the energy absorber pad in relation to the impact bar.

  4. Object Number: 164765  Size: SH
  5. Remove the plastic retainer which secures the energy absorber to the impact bar.
  6. Use J 25070 in order to heat the outer rear door body panel to 21°C (70°F).
  7. Apply heat 152 mm (6 in) from the surface using a circular motion for about 30 seconds.

  8. Remove the energy absorber pad from the rear door.
  9. Clean the door surface with oil free naphtha.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the protective backing from the adhesive strips of the NEW energy absorber pad.
  2. Important: The energy absorber pad must be flush against the door outer panel.

  3. Align the energy absorber pad to the marks on the rear door and the impact bar.
  4. Install the plastic retainer which secures the energy absorber to the impact bar.

  5. Apply pressure to the energy absorber until fully seated against the rear door and the impact bar.
  6. Install the rear door water deflector. Refer to Rear Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  7. Install the rear door trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
