Verify the CHECK COOLANT TEMP message is always on.

Does the system operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. With a scan tool select engine data 2 and monitor the monitored coolant temperature.

Is the monitored coolant temperature an accurate representation of the engine temperature gauge?

Go to Step 4

Go to Instrument Cluster Replacement

With a scan tool select instrument panel cluster (IPC) data, and command the check coolant temp message on.

Does the check coolant temp message turn ON and OFF when commanded?

Go to Engine Overheating

Go to Step 5

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
