Was the BCM Diagnostic System Check performed?

Inspect the powertrain control module (PCM) for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Refer to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls - 3.5L for more information.

Are there any PCM DTCs present?

Go to appropriate DTC table in Engine Controls

Go to Step 3

  1. Connect a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  2. Using scan tool, monitor the park brake switch input.
  3. While observing the scan tool, apply and then release the park brake.

Does the scan tool indicate that the park brake input is on while the park brake is applied?

Go to Step 5

  1. Apply the park brake.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the off position.
  3. Disconnect the scan tool from the DLC.
  4. Disconnect the BCM connector C2.
  5. Using a test light, connect between B+ and the BCM connector C2 terminal A2.

Is the test light on?

  1. Disconnect the scan tool from the DLC.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the off position.
  3. Reconnect the connectors and reinstall the components that you removed.
  4. Apply the park brake.
  5. Step firmly and hold the brake pedal.
  6. Start the engine.
  7. While shifting the transaxle into DRIVE, listen to the chime.
  8. Shift the transaxle into PARK.
  9. Turn the engine off.

Did the BCM sound the park brake reminder when the transaxle was shifted into DRIVE with the park brake applied?

Repair the poor connection or open in circuit 1844.

Is the repair complete?

The malfunction is not present at this time. Refer to Audible Warnings Circuit Description for more information regarding the operation of the park brake reminder.

  1. Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.
  2. After BCM replacement, perform the Setup New BCM procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Reconnect the connectors and reinstall the components that you removed.
  3. Inspect for BCM current DTCs. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Displaying .
