REPETITIVE INOP.A/C COMPRESSOR (INSTALL INLINE FILTER)

MODELS/YEARS: 1986-1988 DELTA 88 AND NINETY-EIGHT

On those cars that have an inoperative compressor due to internal causes, the expansion (orifice) tube should be removed and checked for contamination of the expansion tube screen. If contamination is present, discard the expansion tube and install the new inline filter, (Figure 1) with an integral expansion tube using the procedure listed below.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. D & C negative battery cable

2. Discharge A/C system

3. Remove engine compartment splash panel at cowl to access fitting to accumulator, (2) 10 mm nuts

4. Remove windshield washer reservoir to access lower A/C fitting at expansion tube, (2) electrical connections and (4) 7 mm screws

5. Disconnect A/C fitting at expansion tube

6. Disconnect A/C fitting at evaporator inlet

7. Remove A/C liquid line from vehicle, (1) 10 mm bolt to A/C line bracket

8. Install A/C filter and align filter lines to match up with A/C fittings on vehicle and tighten fittings on filter. Install new "O" ring and torque fittings to specification, 15 N-m (ll lbs. ft.).

9. Tighten lower A/C fitting on liquid line

10. Tighten A/C fitting at evaporator inlet

11. Install windshield washer reservoir (2) electrical connections and (4) 7mm screws

12. Install engine compartment splash panel

13. Evacuate and charge A/C system, leak test system
