SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE SEC. 4D INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSY. PROC.

SUBJECT: DRIVE AXLE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASM. - REVISED PROCEDURE

MODELS/YEARS: 1991-92 CUTLASS SUPREME

The procedure for removing and installing the intermediate drive shaft has been revised. Use the following procedure for servicing the intermediate drive shaft. Please make a note of this in your 1991 Cutlass Supreme Service Manual on page 4D-6 and your 1992 Cutlass Supreme Service Manual on page 4D-8.

Remove or Disconnect:

1. Transaxle from vehicle, refer to Manual Transaxle (Section 7B). 2. Intermediate shaft housing to transaxle bolts. 3. Intermediate shaft housing from transaxle. 4. Intermediate shaft snap ring. 5. Intermediate shaft from housing, if replacing. 6. O-ring seal from housing, if intermediate shaft has been removed.

Install or Connect:

1. New 0-ring seal to housing, if intermediate shaft has been removed. 2. Intermediate shaft to housing, if removed. 3. Intermediate shaft snap ring. 4. Intermediate shaft housing into position and lock shaft into transaxle. 5. Intermediate shaft housing to transaxle bolts and tighten to 25 Nm (18 Lbs. Ft.). 6. Coat splines of intermediate shaft with chassis grease. 7. Transaxle to vehicle, refer to Manual Transaxle (Section 7B).
