SQUEAK/RATTLE NOISE IN I/P APPLY FOAM TAPE TO I/P PAD

SUBJECT: SQUEAK AND RATTLE NOISE IN INSTRUMENT PANEL REMOVE I/P PAD AND ADD FOAM TAPE

MODELS/YEARS: 1990-91 CUTLASS SUPREME

CONDITION: Squeaks and/or rattles in instrument panel.

CAUSE: Normal vehicle vibration causes various sub assemblies to contact each other creating squeaks and/or rattles.

CORRECTION: Materials Required: 3M Foam Tape #06370 or equivalent, Adhesive Backed Black Felt (local fabric store).

1. Remove steering column filler panel and apply felt pads cut to 12mm X 12mm (1 /2" X 1/2') to upper retaining tabs as illustrated. See Figure 1.

2. Remove instrument panel pad and place upside down on clean work surface, add foam tape 25mm X 30mm (1" X 1 1/4") at locations illustrated. See Figure 2.

3. Apply foam tape and felt strips to areas of instrument panel carrier as illustrated. See Figure 3.
