SPORT PERFORMANCE PACKAGE INFO QUAD 442 INFORMATION

OLDSMOBILE HAS PRODUCED A SPECIAL EDITION OF THE 1991 CUTLASS CALAIS QUAD 442. THIS LIMITED PRODUCTION VERSION IS EQUIPPED WITH THE W41 SPORT PERFORMANCE PACKAGE. THE W41 PACKAGE INCLUDES A 190 HP QUAD 4 ENGINE, CLOSE-RATIO FIVE-SPEED TRANSAXLE WITH A 3.94 FINAL DRIVE RATIO, AND ABS VI BRAKES. A TOTAL OF 200 VEHICLES HAVE BEEN BUILT FOR 1991. OF THESE 200 VEHICLES, 15 ARE WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING.

THOSE VEHICLES WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING ARE EQUIPPED WITH AN ENGINE OIL COOLER AND AN IMPROVED FUEL TANK SUMP UNIT. THE IMPROVED FUEL TANK SUMP ALLOWS FOR THE USE OF ALL THE FUEL IN THE TANK WITHOUT STARVATION CAUSED BY FUEL SLOSH DURING AGGRESSIVE CORNERING. WITH THESE REFINEMENTS, CUTLASS CALAIS QUAD 442 INCREASES ITS COMPETITIVE EDGE IN THE SHOWROOM-STOCK RACING PROGRAM.

THE W41 QUAD 4 ENGINE GETS ADDITIONAL HORSEPOWER WITH THE USE OF A REVISED CAM PROFILE, FREER-FLOWING INTAKE MANIFOLD, AND A LOW RESTRICTION EXHAUST SYSTEM. ALSO, THE ECM CONTROLLED FUEL-CUTOFF POINT IS RAISED FROM 6800 RPM TO 7400 RPM. THIS CHANGE, HOWEVER, IS NOT REFLECTED ON THE FACE OF THE TACHOMETER. FUEL-CUTOFF WILL ALSO OCCUR WHEN VEHICLE SPEED EXCEEDS 125 MPH. THE W41 ENGINE IS IDENTIFIED WITH SPECIFIC GRAPHICS AND COLOR SCHEME ON THE IDI (INTEGRATED DIRECT IGNITION) COVER.

THE NEW VENTURE 5TM40 TRANSAXLE IS MODIFIED WITH THE USE OF A 3.94 FINAL DRIVE RATIO AND SECOND GEAR AND FIFTH GEAR RATIOS HAVE BEEN CHANGED.

W41 SUSPENSION IS UNCHANGED FROM THAT OF THE QUAD 442 (FE3). FE3 SUSPENSION INCLUDES UPGRADED STRUTS, SHOCKS, SPRING RATES, STABILIZER BAR AND ELECTRONIC VARIABLE ORIFICE (EVO) STEERING. GOODYEAR, P215/60R TIRES ARE MOUNTED ON FOURTEEN INCH ALUMINUM- STYLED WHEELS.

ABS VI IS ADDED TO THE CONVENTIONAL DISC/DRUM BRAKING SYSTEM. THIS LIGHT WEIGHT, HIGH TECH FEATURE PROVIDES FOR IMPROVED VEHICLE STABILITY, STEERABILITY AND REDUCED STOPPING DISTANCE POTENTIAL DURING ADVERSE BRAKING CONDITIONS (REFERENCE THE SERVICE GUILD ARTICLE ON PAGE 83 OF THE MAY 1991 ISSUE).

EXTERIOR PAINT IS AVAILABLE IN ONE COLOR, RED (GM CODE 81). VARIOUS DECALS IDENTIFY THE W41 LIMITED PRODUCTION VEHICLE. THEY ARE AS FOLLOWS:

- SILVER "OLDSMOBILE" DECAL ON LH FRONT OF HOOD. - SILVER "QUAD 442" DECALS LOCATED ON LH/RH DOOR BODY SIDE MOLDINGS. - SILVER DECAL STRIPES INTEGRATED WITH BODY SIDE MOLDINGS AND REAR FASCIA RUB STRIP. DECAL STARTS AT FRONT OF RH DOOR AND EXTENDS AROUND REAR FASCIA TO FRONT OF LEFT DOOR. - SILVER DECALS ON DECK LID, "QUAD 442" ON LH SIDE AND "OLDSMOBILE" ON RH SIDE. - SILVER "W41" DECAL ON FRONT FASCIA RUB STRIP SIDES.

INTERIOR FEATURES REMAIN UNCHANGED AND ONLY ONE COLOR IS AVAILABLE, SLATE (GM CODE 15). DRIVER SIDE VISOR IS LABELED TO INDICATE "UNLEADED PREMIUM FUEL REQUIRED" AND THE FULL GAGE CLUSTER HAS THE NECESSARY "ABS" TELLTALE LIGHT.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
