COLD START STALL, TIP IN HES. ROUGH/MISS (NEW MEM CAL.)

MODELS/YEARS 1988-89 CUTLASS CALAIS WITH 2.3L LD2 (VIN CODE D) ENGINE

Some 1988 and 1989 Cutlass Calais models may exhibit one or more of the following conditions for the first 15 to 60 seconds after a cold start.

Stall when put in gear Tip-in hesitation after immediately put in gear Reduced cold driveability (miss, rough running or backfire)

If any of the above conditions cannot be repaired, following proper service manual diagnosis, it may be necessary to install a new MEM-CAL.

1989 Models beginning with the VIN breakpoints shown below have the updated Mem-Cal. Models prior to the breakpoints may require the Mem-Cal shown.

Parts are expected to be available on March 6, 1989. Until then normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. GMSPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the pad will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense. All other order types will be canceled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in place.
