MODEL/YEARS: 1988-91 CUTLASS CALAIS AND 1992-93 ACHIEVA WITH 4 CYLINDER ENGINES
This bulletin cancels and supersedes the article written in the July 1988 Service Guild page 95, which should be disregarded.
Some 1988-91 Cutlass Calais and 1992-93 Achieva equipped with 4 cylinder engines may exhibit a condition where temperature gage readings fluctuate in the normal range. These gage fluctuations may be as much as 1/4 of the scale.
Coolant temperature sensor location combined with the thermostat cycling characteristics contribute to this sensitivity. This condition is considered a normal characteristic of this engine family and should not be cause for instrument panel cluster, gage or indicator sender, or engine coolant thermostat replacement.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
