ENGINE WIRE HARNESS MAY BE DAMAGED BY ENGINE BLOCK

SUBJECT: ENGINE WIRE HARNESS MAY BE DAMAGED BY ENGINE BLOCK - REPOSITION AND SECURE HARNESS

MODELS/YEARS: 1991 CUSTOM CRUISER

CONDITION: The main electrical harness (right rear side of engine) may contact the engine. See the illustration below. Heat from the engine block may damage the harness by shorting the wires to the block.

CAUSE: The harness may be pushed forward from it's normal position, allowing contact with the engine block. A clip was added in production after vehicle number MW305367.

CORRECTION:

------------- 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Raise the vehicle. Remove the right front wheel and tire. Remove the inner fender splash shield.

3. Inspect the harness, and repair any damage as necessary.

4. Remove the plastic push-in clip from the bracket. The push-in clip can be left on the harness to locate the new clip.

5. Use clip, P/N 12010517, and self-tapping screw, P/N 11500086, to retain the harness to the bracket as shown in the illustration. Straighten the bracket if necessary. Make sure the clip stays vertical after the screw is tightened. Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

6. Install the inner fender splash shield. Install the wheel and tire. Lower the vehicle.

7. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
