Important: Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to the following descriptions:

   • Steering Wheel and Column Description
   • Ignition Lock System Description

Visual/Physical Inspection

    • Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the steering wheel and column. Refer to Checking Aftermarket Accessories in Wiring Systems.
    • Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.

Intermittent

Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.

Symptom List

Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom:

    •  Lock System Does Not Unlock
    •  Lock System Does Not Lock
    •  Lock System Sticks in Start
    •  Ignition Key Cannot Be Removed from the Ignition Lock Cylinder
    •  High Lock Effort Between the Off Lock Positions
    •  Ignition Key Cannot Turn or Sticks in Any Position
    •  Noise in Steering Column
    •  High Steering Shaft Effort
    •  Looseness in Steering Column
    •  Loose Steering Wheel
    •  Turn Signal Switch Does Not Cancel
    •  Turn Signal Switch Difficult to Operate
    •  Hazard Switch Cannot Be Turned Off
    •  Hazard Switch Does Not Stay On
