Verify that the temperature control is inoperative.

Does the temperature control operate normally?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  2. Turn the engine to OFF.
  3. Disconnect the air temperature valve sensor.
  4. Connect a digital multimeter (DMM) to CKT 733 (LT BLU) wire and ground.
  5. Measure the voltage.
  6. Move the temperature control knob from hot to cold and from cold to hot.

Did the voltage vary smoothly and continuously within the range specified?

1 V to 12 V

Did the voltage remain at or near the battery voltage regardless of the temperature knob position?

Connect a test lamp between CKT 341 (BRN) wire and ground at the air temperature valve sensor and motor.

Did the test lamp light?

Repair the open in CKT 341 (BRN) wire between the instrument panel (IP) fuse block and the air temperature valve sensor and motor.

Is the wire repair complete?

Connect a self-powered test lamp between CKT 1850 (BLK) wire and ground at the temperature valve sensor and motor.

Did the test lamp light?

Replace the air temperature valve sensor and motor. Refer to Temperature Actuator Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

Is the replacement complete?

Repair the open in CKT 1850 (BLK) wire.

Is the wire repair complete?

Connect a test lamp between CKT 341 (BRN) wire cavity A connector C3 at the heater and AC controller and ground.

Did the test lamp light?

Inspect HVAC I fuse 21.

Repair the open in CKT 341 (BRN) wire.

  1. Disconnect the heater and A/C controller connectors.
  2. Connect a self-powered test lamp between CKT 341 (BRN) wire and ground.

Did the test lamp light?

Connect a self-powered test lamp between CKT  733 (LT BLU) wire cavity B connector C3 at the heater and A/C Controller and ground.

Connect a digital multimeter across terminals A and C of connector C3 at the heater and A/C controller and measure the resistance.

1.0 ohms

Repair the intermittent short to ground in CKT 341 (BRN) wire.

Connect a digital multimeter between CKT 733 (LT BLU) wire cavity B of C3 and CKT 733 (LT BLU) wire cavity 8 of the air temperature valve sensor and motor connector.

Is the resistance less than or equal to the specified value?

0.5 ohms

Replace the heater and A/C controller. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement .

Repair the open or the high resistance in CKT 733 (LT BLU) wire.

  1. Remove the heater and A/C controller.
  2. Connect a self-powered test lamp in order to backprobe between CKT 1050 (BLK) wire cavity C connector C3 at the heater and A/C controller.

Did the test lamp light?
