Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement 2.2L
Tools Required
J 39400 Leak Detector
Removal Procedure
- Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Remove the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical -- 2.2L.
- Remove the electrical connectors as necessary.
- Remove the compressor suction/discharge hose assembly. Refer to
Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement
.
- Remove the compressor
bolts.
- Remove the compressor rear bracket bolts.
- Remove the compressor from the brackets.
Installation Procedure
- Install the compressor
into the brackets.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the compressor
rear bracket bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor rear bracket bolts to 31 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the compressor bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the compressor suction/discharge hose assembly. Refer
to
Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement
.
- Install the electrical connectors, if necessary.
- Install the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical -- 2.2L.
- Evacuate and recharge the system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Leak test the fitting(s) of the repaired or reinstalled components
using the J 39400
.

- Remove the electrical connectors as necessary.
- Remove the compressor suction/discharge hose assembly. Refer to

.
- Remove the compressor
bolts.
- Remove the compressor from the bracket.
Installation Procedure
- Install the compressor
into the bracket.

- Evacuate and recharge the system. Refer to

- Leak test the fitting(s) of the repaired or reinstalled components
using the J 39400
.
