  1. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
  2. Use the scan tool to verify communication with the following components on the class 2 data link:
  3. • The Body Control Module (BCM)
    • The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)
    • The Instrument Cluster

Are all of the modules communicating with the scan tool?

Use the scan tool in order to inspect for DTCs in the above listed modules and Instrument Cluster.

Are any DTCs present?

Go to the appropriate DTC Diagnostic

Use the scan tool to monitor the park brake indicator switch input 1 to the BCM.

Does the switch change state between set and released during operation of the park brake lever?

Disconnect the park brake indicator switch.

Is the brake warning lamp still ON?

Repair the short to ground in CKT 1134 (LT BLU) between the park brake indicator switch and the BCM. Refer to Wiring Repairs in wiring systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the park brake indicator switch. Refer to Parking Brake Indicator Switch Replacement in park brake.

Use the scan tool to verify if the brake fluid level switch state is OK or LOW.

Is the brake fluid level switch state LOW?

Disconnect the brake fluid level switch.

Is the brake warning lamp still ON?

Repair the short to ground in CKT 333 (PPL) between the brake fluid level switch and the EBCM. Refer to Wiring Repairs in wiring systems.
