Removal Procedure
- Remove battery. Refer
to
Battery Replacement
in
Engine Electrical.
- Remove battery tray. Refer to
Battery Tray Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove cable hold down bolt attached to frame.
- Remove the cable clip from actuator.
- Remove cable from actuator.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the differential shield. Refer to
Shield Replacement
.
- Cut the strap holding wire and cable together.
- Remove the 3 bolts
holding the shift cable housing.
- Remove the cable assembly from the front differential.
- Remove the spring in order to remove the cable from the shifter
fork.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the shift
cable housing bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 48 N·m (36 lb ft).
- Install the cable assembly to the front differential.
Tighten
Tighten the cable assembly to 10 N·m (88 lb in).
- Install the cable hold down bolt to frame.
Tighten
Tighten the cable hold down bolt to 17 N·m (13 ft lb).
- Use a new strap to tie the cable and wire together.
- Install the differential shield. Refer to
Shield Replacement
.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the cable to the
actuator.
- Install the battery tray. Refer to
Battery Tray Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Install the battery. Refer to
Battery Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Test drive vehicle and check for correct operation of 4WD system.
