  1. Turn the ignition switch to the START position.
  2. Measure the voltage between the negative battery terminal and the engine block.

Is the voltage less than the specified value?

0.5 V

Go to Step 6

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the START position.
  2. Measure the voltage between the starter solenoid terminal B and the appropriate circuit at the battery:
  3. • CKT 32 (BLK) (2.2L)
    • CKT 19 (BLK) (4.3L)

Is the voltage more than the specified value?

0.5 V

Go to Step 8

Replace the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Cable .

Repair or replace the starter motor. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
