J 35468 Oil Seal Installer

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the crankshaft pulley and hub. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer and Hub Replacement .
  2. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 384022  Size: SH
  4. Remove the two nuts at the front of the oil pan.
  5. Remove the studs for the engine front cover to the oil pan.

  6. Object Number: 175486  Size: SH
  7. Remove the engine front cover.
  8. Important: Inspect the engine front cover for warping or damage. Replace if needed.

  9. Clean all sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 9947  Size: SH
  1. Install the crankshaft front oil seal using the following procedure.
  2. 1.1. Lubricate the seal lips with engine oil.
    1.2. Use the J 35468 and a hammer in order to install the seal.

  3. Apply a 10 mm (1/8 in) wide, by 5 mm (3/16 in) thick bead of RTV sealer to the oil pan to the area where the oil pan and the engine front cover meet.

  4. Object Number: 175486  Size: SH
  5. Install the engine front cover over the dowel pins in the engine block.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the engine front cover bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the engine front cover bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  9. Install the studs for the oil pan in the engine front cover.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the studs to 7 N·m (62 lb in).

  11. Install the oil pan nuts on the studs.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pan nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  13. Install the crankshaft balancer hub and the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer and Hub Replacement .
  14. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
