Subject: | Information on Reprogramming PCM with Complete 17 Digit VIN |
Models: | 2006 Isuzu NPR Commercial Models |
with 6.0L Gasoline Engine and 5,400 kg (12,000 lb) GVW Only |
The Janesville GM Assembly plant encodes a partial vehicle identification number (VIN) into the PCM during normal production procedures. An example of a partial VIN is "4KXXXXXXX6J800001." When units are wholesaled to retailing dealers, the full VIN is assigned and programmed into the PCM. The full VIN is computed by brand and specification, and then fills in the X's. An example of a full VIN is "4KLB4B1U46J800001."
Certain Isuzu vehicles, wholesaled from July 18, 2005 until October 14, 2005, did not receive this programming.
Important: This condition does not affect Chevrolet and GMC W-Series vehicles wholesaled within the same period. Only a small number of Isuzu vehicles may be affected. This condition also does not affect vehicle or engine operation or emissions.
If this condition is discovered during vehicle service, reprogram the PCM with the complete 17 digit VIN. The complete 17 digit VIN is present in every vehicle's cab, located on the driver's side "B" pillar. Programming option is available on the latest Tech 2® software from ITCS CV 21 and later.
