Tools Required
• | J 41222 Crankshaft
Gear Installer |
Inspection Procedure
Inspect for the following conditions:
• | Crankshaft main bearing surfaces for wear |
• | Crankshaft thrust washer surfaces for excessive wear |
• | Crankshaft timing gear for chipped or broken teeth |
Measurement Procedure
Important: Replace the crankshaft or the main bearing
inserts, or both, to obtain the proper clearances.
- Measure the crankshaft bearing journals.
• | No. 4 crankshaft main bearing journal: 81.875-81.895 mm (3.2234-3.2242
in) |
• | If the bearing journal diameter is less than 81.845 mm (3.222 in),
the bearing journal must be replaced. |
• | All other crankshaft main bearing journals 81.905-81.925 mm
(3.2246-3.2254 in) |
• | If the bearing journal diameter is less than 81.859 mm (3.223 in),
the bearing journal must be replaced. |
- Measure the crankshaft for runout.
• | Mount the crankshaft between centers or on V blocks and check. |
• | Run out should not exceed 0.45 mm (0.0177 in) |
- Measure the crankshaft connecting rod bearing journals at two different points
on the journal.
• | Connecting rod bearing journals should be: 72.902-72.922 mm
(2.8702-2.8709 in) |
• | If the crankshaft does not meet specifications, it should be replaced. |
Installation Procedure
- Install the J 22888-D
on
the crankshaft timing gear.
- Install the crankshaft timing gear to the crankshaft.
Important: When
installing the crankshaft timing gear, make sure that the timing mark is facing away
from the cylinder block.
- Using the J 41222
, install
the crankshaft timing gear onto the crankshaft.
