Did you review the interior lighting operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Place the dome lamp switch in the ON position.
  2. Place the dome lamp switch in the DOOR position and open the driver's door.

Does the dome lamp illuminate for both actions?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Is the dome lamp inoperative in both switch positions?

Go to Step 5

Is the dome lamp inoperative from the ON switch position only?

Go to Step 6

  1. Disconnect the dome lamp harness connector.
  2. Probe the battery positive voltage circuit of the dome lamp with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

  1. Disconnect the dome lamp harness connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the dome lamp and the ground circuit of the dome lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

  1. Disconnect the door jamb switch.
  2. Connect a 20 amp fused jumper wire between the dome lamp low control circuit of the door jamb switch and a good ground.
  3. Place the dome lamp switch in the DOOR position.

Does the dome lamp illuminate?

  1. Leave the fused jumper wire connected.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector of the dome lamp.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the dome lamp and the dome lamp low control circuit.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the dome lamp. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the door jamb switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair an open, high resistance, or short to ground in the battery positive voltage circuit of the dome lamp. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
