For 1990-2009 cars only
- Clean all the parts in suitable cleaning solvent. Air dry all the parts.
- Inspect the bushing surface on the shift lever shaft (1) for wear.
- Replace the shaft if wear is excessive.
- Inspect the shift shaft bushings in the housing for wear.
- Replace the housing if the bushings have excessive wear.
- Inspect the tip of the internal shift control lever (4) for wear.
- Replace the internal shift control lever if the wear was causing shifting problems.
- Inspect the boot (2) and the cover (6) for cracking or holes.
- Inspect the shift lever rod bracket and the select lever for wear.
- Replace the shift lever rod bracket and select lever as an assembly.
- Inspect the ends of the detent link rod for looseness.
- Replace the ends if excessive looseness.
