Tools Required

    • J 44759 Adapter 3/8" NC to 5/8" NF
    • J 44707 T-Bar Push Puller
    • J 36513 Gear and Bearing Separator Plate
    • J 39477-1 Big T-Bar Push Puller
    • J 44749 Split Plate Bearing Puller

  1. Remove the 6th gear synchronizer ring and set aside.
  2. Remove the reverse gear.
  3. Remove the reverse gear bearing.
  4. Remove the reverse gear bearing race.

  5. Remove the reverse gear synchronizer sleeve.

    6. Object Number: 647363 Size: SH
  6. Remove the reverse gear synchronizer hub using J 36513  (1), J 44759  (2), and J 39477-1  (3). The hub has a slight interference fit and may come off without using the puller.

    7. Object Number: 647369 Size: SH

    Important: When you service the synchronizers, retain in order the components that you remove.

  7. Remove the 1st gear with the synchronizer rings.
  8. Remove the 1st gear bearing.

    9. Object Number: 647366 Size: SH

    Important: Covering the synchronizer assembly with a shop towel will prevent the springs from being lost when the sleeve is slid off of the hub.

  9. Cover the 1st and 2nd synchronizer assembly with a shop towel.
  10. Remove the 1st and 2nd synchronizer sleeve.
  11. Remove the synchronizer shift block plungers, the lugs, and the springs.

  12. Remove the retaining ring for the 1st/2nd synchronizer hub. Do not scratch the 1st gear bearing surface.

    13. Object Number: 647373 Size: SH
  13. Align the 2nd gear synchronizer rings with the synchronizer hub.
  14. Using a hydraulic press remove the 1st/2nd synchronizer hub and the 2nd gear.
  15. Remove the 2nd gear along with the synchronizer rings.
  16. Remove the 2nd gear bearing.

  17. Remove the retaining ring for the 5th/6th synchronizer hub from the front end of the mainshaft.

    18. Object Number: 647376 Size: SH
  18. Remove the 5th/6th synchronizer hub using J 44749  (1) and J 39477-1  (2). Install J 44749 behind the 5th gear.

    19. Object Number: 647377 Size: SH
  19. Remove the 5th gear.
  20. Remove the 5th gear bearing.

    21. Object Number: 647381 Size: SH
  21. Remove the retaining ring for the 4th gear bearing roller spacer.

    22. Object Number: 647382 Size: SH
  22. Using a hydraulic press and the J 36513  (1), remove the 4th gear and the 4th gear bearing roller spacer. Install the J 36513 behind the 4th gear.
  23. Remove the 4th gear bearings.

    24. Object Number: 647388 Size: SH
  24. Remove the following 4th gear synchronizer rings:
    25. 24.1. The inner ring
    24.2. The center ring
    24.3. The blocker ring

  25. Remove the following using a hydraulic press:
    26. 25.1. 3rd/4th synchronizer assembly
    25.2. 3rd gear
  26. Remove the 3rd gear bearings.
