  1. Turn the ignition OFF, with the key in the ignition.
  2. Open the driver door.

Does the chime sound?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Is the vehicle equipped with a chime module (UL5)?

  1. Turn the radio ON.
  2. Adjust the radio balance and fade to the left front speakers.

Does the speaker operate properly?

  1. Turn the ignition OFF, with the key in the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the instrument panel cluster (IPC).
  3. Connect a test lamp between the signal circuit of the ignition key alarm switch and battery voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect the IPC.
  2. Disconnect the driver door ajar switch.
  3. Place the key in the ignition.
  4. Connect a 3-ampere fused jumper between the signal circuit of the driver door ajar switch and the ground circuit of the driver door ajar switch.

Does the chime sound?

Connect a 3-ampere fused jumper between the signal circuit of the driver door ajar switch and a good ground.

Test the signal circuit of the driver door ajar switch for an open, for a high resistance, or for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs .
