If your vehicle has this feature, it is located at the end of the multifunction lever.
(Set): Press this button at the end of the lever to set the cruise control speed.Cruise control enables your vehicle to maintain a speed of about 25 mph (40 km/h) or more while your foot is off the accelerator. Cruise control does not work at speeds below about 25 mph (40 km/h).
If your vehicle has an automatic transmission and the brakes are applied, the cruise control shuts off.
If your vehicle has a manual transmission and the brakes are applied or the clutch pedal is pushed, the cruise control shuts off.
Caution: Cruise control can be dangerous where you cannot drive safely at a steady speed. So, do not use the cruise control on winding roads or in heavy traffic.
Cruise control can be dangerous on slippery roads. On such roads, fast changes in tire traction can cause excessive wheel slip, and you could lose control. Do not use cruise control on slippery roads.Caution: If you leave your cruise control on when you are not using cruise, you might hit a button and go into cruise when you do not want to. You could be startled and even lose control. Keep the cruise control switch off until you want to use cruise control.
If the brakes are applied while the cruise control is at a set speed, the cruise control disengages. But it does not need to be reset.
Once the vehicle speed reaches about 25 mph (40 km/h) or more, move the cruise control switch briefly from the on position to the resume/accelerate position.
The vehicle returns to the speed previously selected and stays there.
If the switch is held at resume/accelerate, the vehicle keeps going faster until the switch is released or the brake is applied. Do not hold the switch at resume/accelerate, unless you want the vehicle to go faster.
There are two ways to go to a higher speed:
• | Use the accelerator pedal to get to the higher speed. Press the button at the end of the lever, then release the button and the accelerator pedal. You will now cruise at the higher speed. |
• | Move the cruise switch from on to resume/accelerate. Hold it there until you get up to the desired speed, and then release the switch. To increase your vehicle speed in very small amounts, move the switch briefly to resume/accelerate. Each time this is done, your vehicle goes about 1 mph (1.6 km/h) faster. |
Press in the button at the end of the lever in until you reach the lower speed desired, then release it.
To slow down in very small amounts, briefly tap the button. Each time this is done, your vehicle goes about 1 mph (1.6 km/h) slower.
Use the accelerator pedal to increase the vehicle speed. When you take your foot off the pedal, your vehicle slows down to the cruise control speed that was set earlier.
How well the cruise control works on hills depends upon your speed, load, and the steepness of the hills. While going up steep hills, you might want to step on the accelerator pedal to maintain the vehicle speed. While going downhill, you might have to brake or shift to a lower gear to keep the vehicle speed down. If the brake or clutch is applied the cruise control is disengaged. Many drivers find this to be too much trouble and do not use cruise control on steep hills.
There are four different ways to turn off the cruise control:
• | Step lightly on the brake pedal (manual and automatic transmissions). |
• | Press the clutch pedal to the floor (manual transmissions). |
• | Move the cruise switch to off. |
• | Shift the transmission to NEUTRAL (N). |
When the ignition is turned off, the cruise control set speed memory is erased.
