Subject: Additional Information For Battery Drain/Parasitic Load Test

Models:2006-2007 Hummer H3

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

A number of BCM's have been returned to the Warranty Parts Center (WPC), with no trouble found for a battery draw concern. Prior to replacing a BCM for a battery draw concern, follow the information below to prevent the replacement of a good BCM.

Recommendation/Instructions:

  1. Follow the diagnostics in eSI for Battery Electrical Drain/Parasitic Load Test.
  2. When performing the Battery Electrical Drain/Parasitic Load Test, it is important to wait 20 minutes for the modules to go to sleep before recording the draw reading.
  3. Do not activate any switches on the vehicle, as this will wake the modules up and start the 20 minute clock over for the module to go to sleep.
  4. It is very important to make sure all the doors are closed and the ignition key is removed from the ignition.
  5. Monitor BCM circuit 1073 on connector C2-A42 ( Ignition Key Resistor Signal) with the DVOM during the 20 minutes of the parasitic load test. This should be a constant 4.99 to 5.00 volts prior to the BCM going to sleep. If the voltage after 20 minutes starts to drop below 4.9 to 4.8 volts and goes back up again this means the BCM tried to go to sleep but was woken up by an external input.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
