Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the end bolt (3) from the fuel feed inlet hose (2) to the fuel filter.
  5. Remove the fuel feed inlet hose (2) from the fuel filter (1).
  6. Remove the end bolt (6) and the fuel feed outlet hose (5) from the fuel filter.
  7. Remove the two bolts (4) and the fuel filter mounting bracket from the underbody.
  8. Loosen the retaining bolt from the fuel filter bracket and the fuel filter (1) from the fuel filter mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 55165 Size: SH
  1. Install the fuel filter mounting bracket-to-fuel filter (1).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Secure the fuel filter to mounting bracket with one retaining bolt.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the fuel filter retaining bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  5. Install the fuel filter mounting bracket to the underbody.
  6. Secure the fuel filter mounting bracket with the two bolts (4).
  7. Tighten
Tighten the fuel filter mounting bracket bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Install the fuel feed outlet hose (5) with new gaskets to the fuel filter.
  9. Secure the fuel feed outlet hose (5) and gaskets to the fuel filter with the fuel feed outlet end bolt (6).
  10. Tighten
Tighten the fuel feed inlet hose-to-fuel filter bolt to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  11. Install the fuel feed inlet hose (2) with new gaskets to the fuel filter (1).
  12. Secure the fuel feed inlet hose (2) and gaskets to the fuel filter with the fuel feed inlet end bolt (3).
  13. Tighten
Tighten the fuel feed inlet hose-to-fuel filter bolt to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16. Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable terminal retainer to 15 N·m ( 11 lb ft).

  17. Turn the ignition switch ON and then OFF in order to pressurize the fuel system.
  18. Check for any fuel leaks and repair as necessary.
