Caution: If the EGR valve is hot, wear gloves in order to prevent personal injury.
Caution: Drain the fuel from the fuel sender assembly into an approved container in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury. Never store the fuel in an open container.
Important: Be sure that all loose particles are completely removed in order to prevent the particles from being ingested into the engine or clogging the EGR valve.
Inspect the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) passage in the intake manifold for any buildup of deposits. Clean sthe passage if necessary.
• | Clean the exhaust deposits from the mounting surface and from around the EGR valve. |
• | Look for exhaust debris in the EGR valve outlet. Remove the debris with a screwdriver. |
• | Clean the mounting surfaces of the manifold and the EGR valve assembly. |
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the EGR valve bolts to 14N·m (10.5 lb ft)
