POPPING NOISE IN REAR SPEAKERS SERVICE PROC. FOR ADJUSTMENT

Subject: POPPING NOISE IN REAR SPEAKERS

Model and Year: 1991 GEO STORM HATCHBACK

An interference condition in which the speaker terminal contacting the speaker bracket may cause a limited number of GEO Storm Hatchback models to exhibit a popping or thumping sound emanating from the rear speakers. In some cases no sound at all may result if the speakers have shorted out. To correct this condition perform the following:

Procedure:

------------- 1. Remove the rear speaker trim panel (See Figure 1).

Important: Illustrations show the right rear speaker only. Perform the same procedure on the left speaker also.

2. Remove all speaker mounting screws (Figure 2). 3. If right speaker, rotate speaker 1/4 turn counterclockwise (Figure 3). If left speaker, turn speaker 1/4 turn clockwise. 4. Install speaker screws with speaker in corrected position. (Figure 4). 5. Install and secure speaker grille to quarter trim panel.
