This bulletin cancels and replaces Bulletin 89-86-6D dated February, 1989, to correct the resistance specification shown for the secondary coil resistance (the "K" was omitted). All copies of 89-06-6D should be discarded.
This service bulletin updates the ignition coil resistance specification found on page 6D-28 in both the 1988 Spectrum Service Manual and the 1989 GEO Spectrum Service Manual under the heading "IGNITION COIL (INCORPORATED DISTRIBUTOR)". The correct resistance specifications for the primary and secondary coils are:
Primary coil Resistance 1.1 ohms to 1.8 ohms
Secondary Coil Resistance 11.2 K ohms to 20.5 K ohms
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
