This bulletin is an amendment to Section 7A of the 1990 Geo Prizm GSi Service Manual Supplement (ST373-90SUPP), and to the 1991-92 Geo Prizm Service Manuals (ST373-91 and ST373-92 respectively). Refer to this bulletin for information concerning Transaxle Control Module (TCM) replacement procedures on 1990-92 Geo Prizm GSi vehicles equipped with the A240E 4-speed automatic transaxle.
On-Vehicle Service
Transaxle Control Module (TCM)
Remove or Disconnect
1 . Negative (-) battery cable. 2. Five screws and rear console from floor. 3. Two screws and center console from floor. 4. Two screws and shift indicator cover from manual selector. 5. Electrical connector from TCM. 6. Two bolts and TCM from TCM bracket (Figure 1).
Install or Connect
1. TCM to TCM bracket; secure with two bolts (Figure 1).
Tighten * TCM bolts to 15 N.m (11 lb.ft.). 2. Electrical connector to TCM. 3. Shift indicator cover to manual selector; secure with two screws. 4. Center console to floor; secure with two screws. 5. Rear console to floor; secure with five screws. 6. Negative (-) battery cable.
Tighten
* Negative (-) battery cable-to-negative (-) battery terminal retainer to 15 N.m (11 lb.ft.).
