Your vehicle may have a content theft-deterrent alarm system.
With the ignition off, you can arm the system by pressing the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter lock button or the power door lock switch while the driver's door is open.
The system will arm thirty seconds after all the doors are closed, or sixty seconds with any door open.
If you press the lock button on the transmitter a second time while all the doors are closed, the system will arm immediately. The system will still arm in sixty seconds if a door is open. When the open door is closed, the system will arm.
The security light, located on the instrument panel cluster, will turn on to indicate that arming has been initiated. Once the system is armed, the security light will flash once every three seconds.
If the security light is flashing twice per second, this means that a door is open.
If you do not want to arm the system, you may lock the car with the lock levers on the doors.
Press the RKE transmitter unlock button, or turn the ignition to ON to disarm the system.
Once the system is disarmed, the security light will stop flashing.
If the system is armed, it can be activated by:
• | Opening the driver's door or trunk. This will cause a ten second pre-alarm chirp followed by a thirty second full alarm of horn and lights. |
• | Opening any other door. This will immediately cause a full alarm of horn and lights for thirty seconds. |
• | Opening the hood. If the vehicle has the remote start feature, it will activate the full alarm. |
When an alarm event has finished, the system will re-arm itself automatically.
To turn off the system alarm, do one of the following:
• | Press the lock button on the RKE transmitter. The system will then re-arm itself. |
• | Press the unlock button on the RKE transmitter. This will also disarm the system. |
• | Insert the key in the ignition and turn it on. This will also disarm the system. |
If you hear three chirps when the unlock or lock button is pressed on the RKE transmitter, it means that the content theft security system alarm was previously triggered.
Your vehicle may have a content theft-deterrent alarm system.
A red light located on top of the instrument panel, toward the center of the vehicle and near the windshield, will flash slowly when the system is armed.
The theft-deterrent alarm system needs to be activated through the Driver Information Center (DIC). See "CONTENT THEFT" under "Customization Menu Items" in DIC Vehicle Personalization . While armed, the doors will not unlock with the power door lock switch. The remote alarm will sound if someone tampers with the trunk or enters the vehicle without using the remote keyless entry transmitter or key to unlock the doors. The horn will sound and the headlamps will flash for up to two minutes. The system will also cut off the fuel supply, preventing the vehicle from being driven.
The vehicle's content theft-deterrent alarm system can be activated when the key is removed from the ignition and the power door lock switch of either the driver's or front passenger's door is used to lock the vehicle. The door needs to be in the open position when pressing the power door lock switch. The alarm system will not activate if the door is closed when the power door lock switch is pressed. This system can be activated through the Driver Information Center (DIC). See "CONTENT THEFT" under "Customization Menu Items" in DIC Vehicle Personalization .
When the doors are locked using the power door lock switch of either front door, the red light on top of the instrument panel will start flashing at a fast rate, indicating that the system is arming. After all the doors are locked there will be a time delay and then the red light will begin to flash at a very slow rate, indicating the system is armed.
The alarm system will arm when the remote keyless entry transmitter is used to lock the doors after the key is removed from the ignition. The red light will come on to indicate that the system is arming. After all doors are closed and locked, and after a time delay, the red light will begin flashing at a very slow rate to show the system is armed.
A red light located on top of the instrument panel, towards the center of the vehicle and near the windshield, will flash slowly to confirm when the system is armed.
The alarm system will disarm when the remote keyless entry transmitter is used to unlock the doors. The red light will go out to show that the system is disarmed.
The alarm system will disarm when the key is used to unlock the doors. The red light will stop flashing when the system is disarmed. If you would like the key to disarm the alarm system, see "CONTENT THEFT" under DIC Vehicle Personalization for more information.
