The Cruise Resume/Accel switch is an input to the fuel control portion of the powertrain control module (PCM). These inputs allow the PCM to control and hold a previously set speed. The Cruise Resume/Accel switch sends an ignition voltage to the PCM when the switch is closed (ON).
The ignition switch is in the ON position.
• | The cruise switch is OFF. |
• | The ignition voltage on the Resume switch signal circuit. |
or
• | The cruise switch is ON. |
• | The resume switch is ON for longer than 25.5 seconds. |
• | The PCM will not illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). |
• | The PCM records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. This information is stored in the Failure Records. |
• | The PCM will turn the MIL off after 3 consecutive trips without a fault condition. |
• | A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if this or any other emission related diagnostic does not report any failures. |
• | The scan tool Clear Info function was used. |
Check for a Resume/Accel switch stuck in the engage position or the signal circuit shorted to the voltage.
Number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the Diagnostic Table.
This step determines if the signal circuit is shorted to voltage.
This step determines if the PCM or switch is at fault.
Step | Action | Value(s) | Yes | No |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 |
Important: Before clearing the DTCs, use the scan tool Capture Info function to save the Freeze Frame and the Failure records for reference. The control module's data is deleted once the Clear Info function is used. Was the Powertrain On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check performed? | -- | ||
