Grid Line Repair Export

  1. Mark the grid line break on the outside of the window with a grease pencil.
  2. Buff the repair area with steel wool approximately 6 mm (¼ in) beyond each side of the break in the grid line.
  3. Wipe the repair area with alcohol approximately 6 mm (¼ in) beyond each side of the break in the grid line.
  4. Caution: To avoid personal injury:

       • Do not allow the repair material to come in contact with skin or eyes and avoid breathing vapors.
       • Do not use near sparks or open flame.

    Important: 

       • The repair decal or tape must be used to control the width of the repair area.
       • Ensure the die-cut metering slot is the same width as the grid line if the repair decal is used.

  5. Install one of the following components above and below the repair area:
  6. • The grid line repair decal
    • 2 strips of tape
  7. Remove the clamp (separator) from the container of grid line repair material.
  8. Important: Ensure that the hardener and the silver plastic is thoroughly mixed.

  9. Mix the hardener and the silver plastic.
  10. Immerse the packet containing the hardener in hot water until the hardener liquefies if the hardener has crystallized.

  11. Use a small wooden stick or spatula in order to apply the grid line repair material to the repair area at room temperature.
  12. Carefully remove the repair decal or tape.
  13. Hold the heat gun nozzle 25 mm (1 in) from the surface.
  14. Use a heat gun capable of reaching 260°C (500°F) in order to heat the repair area.

  15. Heat the repair area for 1-2 minutes.
  16. Ensure that the repair area has reached at least 149°C (300°F).
  17. Perform the following procedure if the repair area appears to be discolored:
  18. 12.1. Use a pipe cleaner or fine brush in order to apply a coating of tincture of iodine to the repair area.
    12.2. Allow the iodine to dry for about 30 seconds.
    12.3. Carefully wipe off the excess iodine from the repair area with a lint-free cloth.

    Important: At least 24 hours are required for complete curing of the repair materials. The repair area should not be physically disturbed until 24 hours have expired.

  19. Test the rear defogger operation in order to verify the grid line repair.
