GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

All models use an audio alarm system in order to remind the driver to do any of the following actions:

    • Fasten the seat belts.
    • Remove the ignition key.
    • Turn OFF the headlamps.

This system uses an alarm assembly that sounds and turns on a warning lamp on the instrument panel when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position and when the seat belt is not buckled.

If the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position, and the headlamps are ON, the alarm assembly chimes in order to remind the driver that the headlamps are ON.

If the driver's door is opened, and the key is left in the ignition switch, the alarm will also sound.
