The Service Engine Soon indicator lamp should turn on when the ignition switch is in the RUN position and with the engine off. The lamp should turn off 1-5 seconds after the engine starts. If the lamp stays on, or turns on while driving, this may require service to the emission control system. Refer to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check or Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check or Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls.
Vehicles with diesel engines have an electronic throttle control system. Throttle cables are no longer used with these vehicles.
An electronic throttle pedal assembly sends signals to the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM receives the throttle position signal and compares this with information such as road speed and transmission range. The PCM then signals a solenoid on the injector pump assembly. This keeps precise control over the entire diesel throttle system.
The Service Throttle Soon lamp is in the lower right corner of the instrument cluster. This lamp turns on when the ignition switch is in the RUN position and the engine is off. The lamp should turn off 1-5 seconds after the engine starts. If the lamp stays on, or turns on while driving, this may require service to the electronic throttle system. Refer to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls.
The brake warning system consists of the following components:
• | 2 lamps in the instrument cluster |
• | The brake warning lamp |
• | The antilock indicator lamp |
The brake warning lamp indicates that a low fluid pressure condition exists in the brake system when the indicator finds ground through the pressure differential switch in the combination valve.
The brake warning lamp also indicates that the parking brake is applied when the indicator finds ground through the parking brake switch.
For additional information on the brake warning lamp operation, refer to Brake Warning System Operation in Hydraulic Brakes.
The antilock brake system indicator lamp serves as an indicator for the 4 wheel antilock brake system operation and malfunctions.
A bulb inspection is done each time you turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. The lamp should turn on, and remain on, for 2 seconds. In order to determine the specific cause of a system malfunction, refer to Diagnostic System Check - ABS in ABS/Traction Control.
