Beginning February, 1982, a revised pump to case gasket and torque converter clutch valve went into production for the 1982 THM 200C transmission. This revision will help eliminate transmission oil from exhausting out the vent. (Refer to Figure No. 1 and Figure No. 2).
When servicing transmissions for this condition, check the following items:
1. Proper fluid level. (refer to service manual.)
2. Proper engagement of converter clutch. If converter clutch doesn't engage properly, check for a stuck torque converter clutch valve in pump cover.
3. Pump body and cover quality for:
a. Nicks and burrs on face surfaces.
b. Pump clutch to body bolt torques (18 ft. lbs).
4. Direct clutch housing bushing for worn condition.
5. Case for:
a. Nicks and burrs on case surface.
b. Pump to case bolt torques (18 ft. lbs.).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
