Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle.
  2. Remove the transmission oil. Refer to Fluid Replacement .
  3. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  4. Remove the parking brake, if the vehicle is equipped. Refer to Backing Plate Replacement in Parking Brake.
  5. Remove the yoke nut and washers.
  6. Remove the yoke.

  7. Object Number: 178856  Size: SH
  8. Remove the extension oil seal.

Installation Procedure

J 22834-A Extension Housing Seal Installer


    Object Number: 178856  Size: SH
  1. Install a new extension oil seal. Use the J 22834-A .
  2. Install the yoke.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the washers and yoke nut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the yoke nut to 441 N·m (325 in ft).

  6. Install the parking brake, if the vehicle is equipped. Refer to Backing Plate Replacement in Parking Brake.
  7. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  8. Replace the transmission oil. Refer to Fluid Replacement .
  9. Lower the vehicle.
