Exhaust Pipe Replacement Intermediate

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the exhaust tailpipe. Refer to Tail Pipe Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 21665  Size: SH
  4. Loosen the clamps from the front and rear of the intermediate exhaust pipe.
  5. Remove the exhaust system from the hangers.
  6. Remove the exhaust pipe from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 21665  Size: SH
  1. Install the exhaust pipe on the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the clamps at the front and rear of the exhaust pipe.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the clamps to 68 N·m (50 lb ft).

  5. Install the exhaust tailpipe. Refer to Tail Pipe Replacement .
  6. Lower the vehicle.

Exhaust Pipe Replacement Front

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 240944  Size: SH
  3. Remove the exhaust pipe to catalytic converter flange nuts. Support the catalytic converter.
  4. Disconnect the oxygen sensor connectors.
  5. Remove the oxygen sensors from the front pipe. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.
  6. Remove the exhaust pipe nuts and seals from the exhaust manifolds.
  7. Remove the exhaust pipe from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the exhaust pipe and new seals to the exhaust manifolds and the exhaust pipe flange and new gasket to the catalytic converter.

  2. Object Number: 240944  Size: SH
  3. Install the exhaust pipe to manifold retaining nuts.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the exhaust pipe flange nuts.
  6. Tighten

    • Tighten the exhaust pipe to manifold nuts to 65 N·m (48 lb ft).
    • Tighten the exhaust pipe flange nuts to 48 N·m(35 lb ft).
  7. Install the oxygen sensors. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.
  8. Connect the oxygen sensor connectors.
  9. Lower the vehicle.

Exhaust Pipe Replacement Crossover

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the exhaust pipe bolts and seals from the exhaust manifolds.
  3. Remove the exhaust pipe from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 210390  Size: SH
  1. Install the exhaust pipe and new seals to the exhaust manifolds.
  2. Install the exhaust pipe to manifold retaining bolts.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the exhaust pipe flange nuts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust pipe to manifold bolts to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

  6. Lower the vehicle.
