Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Left
Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect the battery negative cable.
- Disconnect the spark plug
wires from the spark plugs. Refer to
Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Disconnect the wiring harness from the clips, and move the harness
aside.
- Remove the air conditioning
compressor, if equipped, and lay the A/C compressor aside. Refer to
Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement
in HVAC.
- Remove the exhaust gas
recirculation (EGR) pipe from the intake and exhaust manifolds.
- Remove the PCV and the
hose.
- Remove the vacuum brake booster pipe, if equipped, and move it
aside.
- Remove the AIR check valve
crossover pipe, if equipped.
- Remove the valve rocker
arm cover and the gasket. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Removal (Left)
.
- Clean all traces of old gasket from the valve rocker arm cover
and the cylinder head. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Clean and Inspect
.
Installation Procedure
- Install the valve rocker
arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation (Left)
.
- Remove the air conditioning
compressor. Refer to
Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement
in HVAC.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) pipe to the intake and exhaust
manifolds.
Tighten
- Tighten the EGR valve inlet pipe intake manifold nut to 25 N·m
(18 lb ft).
- Tighten the EGR valve inlet pipe exhaust manifold nut to 30 N·m
(22 lb ft).
- Tighten the EGR valve inlet pipe clamp bolt to 25 N·m
(18 lb ft).
- Install the PCV and the
hose.
- Install the vacuum brake booster pipe.
- Install the AIR check
valve crossover pipe, if equipped.
- Install the wiring harnesses to the valve rocker arm cover clips.
- Install the spark plug wires. Refer to
Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Cable Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
