CAMPAIGN: DISC WHEELS (R05) MAY CRACK

DEFECT INVOLVED GENERAL MOTORS HAS BEEN NOTIFIED BY FIRESTONE STEEL PRODUCTS THAT A DEFECT WHICH RELATES TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY EXISTS IN SOME FIRESTONE STEEL PRODUCTS 16 X 6 DISC WHEELS, WHICH WERE INSTALLED ON SOME 1984 C35 CHASSIS-CAB MODELS EQUIPPED WITH DUAL REAR WHEELS (RP0 R05). FIRESTONE HAS REPORTED THAT DUE TO A POSSIBLE MANUFACTURING PROBLEM, THE WHEEL MAY CRACK IN THE DROP CENTER PORTION OF THE RIM. IF A CRACK WERE TO OCCUR ON A WHEEL WITH A TUBE TIRE MOUNTED TO IT AND REMAIN UNDETECTED, THE CRACK COULD SPREAD AND EVENTUALLY SPLIT THE WHEEL RESULTING IN RAPID AIR PRESSURE LOSS FROM THE TIRE. RAPID LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE IN A TIRE, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, MAY CAUSE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND SUBSEQUENT VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. DEALERS ARE TO INSPECT ALL WHEELS AND REPLACE ANY THAT HAVE SUSPECT MANUFACTURING DATE CODES. VEHICLES INVOLVED INVOLVED ARE CERTAIN 1984 C35 CHASSIS-CAB MODELS EQUIPPED WITH DUAL REAR WHEELS (RP0 R05). CHECK C.R.I.S. SYSTEM TO DETERMIHNE IF A SPECIFIC VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN THIS CAMPAIGN. General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
