The multifunction lever contains the ON/OFF position slide switch. The ON/OFF position slide switch controls electrical power to the cruise control system. When this switch is OFF, the system cannot be engaged. When the ON/OFF position slide switch is ON, the cruise control system can be engaged using either the SET or RESUME switch. The cruise control system will not function at speeds less than approximately 40 km/h (25) mph.
The SET/COAST switch controls the following 3 functions:
• | The SET function |
• | The COAST (Trim) function |
• | The TAP DOWN function |
The SET function is used to set the cruise control at a particular speed. The SET function is engaged in the following manner:
Depress and release the SET/COAST switch
The cruise speed will be set within 1.6 km/h (1 mph) of the speed the vehicle was travelling when the button was released. The vehicle will continue to cruise until one of the following things occurs:
• | The ON/OFF switch is moved to the OFF position |
• | The ignition switch is turned OFF |
• | The SET/COAST switched is pushed in fully and held. |
Depressing the brake pedal will also disengage the cruise control. However, when this method is used, the set speed is retained in memory, allowing the cruise control function to resume at a later time.
The COAST/TRIM function is used to raise or lower the cruise control speed. The COAST (Trim) function can be used in the following manner to increase the vehicle speed:
Use the COAST (Trim) function as follows to decrease the vehicle speed:
The TAP DOWN function is used to incrementally decrease the cruise speed. For TAP DOWN to operate, the cruise must be engaged. To decrease the vehicle speed by increments of 1.6 km/h (1 mph) proceed as follows:
Do not hold the button in the depressed position, or the system will revert to the COAST mode. The system can TAP DOWN to 40 km/h (25 mph). This is the lowest speed at which the cruise control system will engage. The system was not designed to operate at speeds lower than 40 km/h (25 mph).
The accelerator can be depressed at any time to override the cruise system. Releasing the accelerator will return the vehicle to the previously set cruise speed.
The RESUME/ACCEL switch controls the following 3 functions:
• | The RESUME function |
• | The ACCELERATE function |
• | The TAP UP function |
The RESUME function is used to reactivate the cruise control system after the system has been disengaged by pressing the brake pedal. Momentarily depressing the RESUME/ACCEL switch will reactivate the system, causing the vehicle to accelerate to the previously set speed.
The RESUME function will not operate under the following circumstances:
• | If the ON/OFF switch has been cycled since the last time the cruise control was active |
• | If the ignition has been switched off since the last time the cruise control was active |
• | If the vehicle speed is below the minimum speed of 40 km/h (25 mph) required for the operation of the cruise control system |
The ACCELERATE function is used to steadily increase the cruise speed. In order for the ACCELERATE function to operate, the following conditions must apply:
• | The ON/OFF switch must be in the ON position. |
• | The vehicle speed must be above 40 km/h (25 mph). |
Employ the ACCELERATE function as follows to increase the vehicle speed:
The ACCELERATE function will not operate unless the ON/OFF switch is in the ON position.
The TAP UP function is used to incrementally increase the cruise speed. For TAP UP to operate, the cruise must be engaged. To increase the vehicle speed by increments of 1.6 km/h (1 mph) proceed as follows:
Do not hold the switch in the RESUME/ACCEL position, or the system will revert to the ACCEL mode. The cruise control system cannot TAP UP beyond 201 km/h (125 mph).
