Removal Procedure

J 26813-B Steering Linkage Puller


    Object Number: 374077  Size: SH
  1. Remove the cotter pin (2) from the tie rod end ball joint (7).
  2. Discard the cotter pin (2).
  3. Remove the nut (1) from the tie rod ball joint (7).

  4. Object Number: 216045  Size: SH
  5. Use the J 26813-B in order to remove the tie rod ball joint.

  6. Object Number: 374792  Size: SH
  7. Loosen the tie rod tube clamps (6).
  8. Remove the tie rod ball joint (7) from the tie rod tube (4).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 374077  Size: SH

    Important: Thread the tie rod ball joint in an equal distance.

  1. Install the tie rod ball joint (7) into the tie rod tube (4).
  2. Install the tie rod ball joint (7) into the tie rod arm (8).
  3. Important: 

       • Advance the ball joint nut (1) to the nearest cotter pin slot.
       • Do not back a ball joint nut off in order to insert a cotter pin.

  4. Install the ball joint nut (1)
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten

        • Tighten the ball joint nut in the axle assembly with a 3675 kg (8,100 lb) rating to 130 N·m (95 lb ft).
        • Tighten the ball joint nut in all other axle assemblies to 160 N·m (120 lb ft).
  6. Install the new cotter pin (2).
  7. Lubricate the tie rod ball with the chassis lubricant. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
  8. Adjust the toe-in. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment .
  9. tighten the tie rod tube clamp bolt nuts (5).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the tie rod tube clamp bolt nuts to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).
