Two Speed Rear Axle Shift Switch (Electric)

Object Number: 199038 Size: SH

In manual transmission models, the two speed rear axle shift switch is mounted onto the manual transmission shift lever.

In automatic transmission models, the two speed rear axle shift switch is mounted in the instrument panel or on the shift tower.

The two speed rear axle shift switch is positioned by the driver in order to operate the two speed rear axle shift motor at the rear axle.

The driver selects the rear axle range by positioning the two speed rear axle switch to the LOW or the HIGH axle range.

Two Speed Rear Axle Shift Switch Relay (Electric)

The two speed rear axle shift switch relay is mounted to the crossmember in front of the rear axle housing.

When the two speed rear axle shift switch is in the HIGH range, a ground is supplied to the two speed rear axle shift switch delay. The two speed rear axle shift switch relay then actuates the two speed rear axle shift motor to the HIGH range.

When the two speed rear axle shift switch is returned to the LOW range, the two speed rear axle shift switch relay is de-energized. The two speed rear axle shift motor then returns to the LOW range.

Two Speed Rear Axle Shift Motor (Electric)

The two speed rear axle shift motor is mounted on the differential carrier.

The two speed rear axle shift motor shifts the rear axle into the LOW or HIGH range position.

Speedometer Adapter (Electric)

The speedometer adapter is used in order to match the ratio of the speedometer to the ratio of the rear axle.

The speedometer adapter gives an accurate speedometer reading when the rear axle is shifted from one range to the other.

The speedometer adapter is electrically connected to the two speed rear axle shift switch.

When the two speed rear axle shift switch is placed in the LOW position, an electrical signal changes the speedometer adapter to the LOW ratio in order to match the rear axle.

When the two speed rear axle shift switch is placed in the HIGH position, the electrical signal is removed and the speedometer adapter reads the HIGH ratio of the rear axle.

Two Speed Rear Axle Shift Control Valve (Air)

The Bendix® TW-1 two speed rear axle shift control valve is mounted in the instrument panel.

The two speed rear axle shift control valve lever is positioned by the driver in order to operate the two speed rear axle shift motor at the rear axle.

The driver selects the rear axle range by positioning the two speed rear axle control valve lever to the LOW rear axle range or the HIGH rear axle range.

When the two speed rear axle control valve is in the LOW range, the two speed rear axle control valve is closed and no air pressure is present in the two speed rear axle shift motor. The rear axle is held in the LOW range by the two speed rear axle shift motor return spring.

When the two speed rear axle control valve is in the HIGH range, the two speed rear axle control valve is opened in order to allow air pressure through the two speed rear axle shift quick release valve to the two speed rear axle shift motor. The rear axle is held in the HIGH range by air pressure in the two speed rear axle shift motor.

Two Speed Rear Axle Dash Panel Switch (Air)

The two speed rear axle dash panel switch is mounted to the two speed rear axle.

When the two speed rear axle shift control valve lever is in the LOW range, the two speed rear axle dash panel switch is closed. This condition completes the electrical circuit and permits the speedometer adapter to read the LOW range of the rear axle.

When the two speed rear axle shift control valve lever is in the HIGH range, air pressure opens the two speed rear axle dash panel switch. This condition interrupts the electrical circuit. This condition permits the speedometer adapter to read the HIGH range of the rear axle.

Two Speed Rear Axle Shift Quick Release Valve (Air)

The Bendix® QR-N two speed rear axle shift quick release valve is mounted on the frame side rail forward of the rear axle housing.

The Bendix® QR-N two speed rear axle shift quick release valve quickly exhausts air pressure from the two speed rear axle motor when the two speed rear axle is shifted from the HIGH range into the LOW range.

Two Speed Rear Axle Pressure Protection Valve (Air)

The two speed rear axle pressure protection valve is mounted to the brake pedal bracket.

The two speed rear axle pressure protection valve is a normally closed pressure sensitive type control valve.

The two speed rear axle pressure protection valve protects the vehicle's air system if a failure occurs in the two speed rear axle shift air system.

Two Speed Rear Axle Shift Motor (Air)

The two speed rear axle shift motor is mounted on the differential carrier.

When air pressure is applied to the two speed rear axle shift motor, the two speed rear axle shift motor actuates the shift fork. This action shifts the rear axle into the HIGH range.

When the air pressure is exhausted from the two speed rear axle shift motor, a return spring permits the rear axle to be returned to the LOW range.

Speedometer Adapter (Air)

The speedometer adapter is used in order to match the ratio of the speedometer to the ratio of the rear axle.

The speedometer adapter gives an accurate speedometer reading when the rear axle is shifted from one range to the other.

The speedometer adapter is electrically connected to the two speed rear axle dash panel switch.

When the two speed rear axle shift control valve lever is placed in the LOW position, an electrical signal changes the speedometer adapter to the LOW range in order to match the rear axle range.

When the two speed rear axle shift control valve lever is placed in the HIGH position, the electrical signal is removed and the speedometer adapter reads the HIGH range of the rear axle.
