ECM WIRE HARNESS ROUTING INFORMATION

MODELS: 1984 C-K TRUCKS WITH 4.1L ENGINES, RPO LE3 1984 C-K TRUCKS WITH 5.7L ENGINES, RPO LS9 AND CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS, RPO NB2

Some early production vehicles built at Janesville Assembly, Plant Code J (11th digit of VIN), may have incorrect electronic control module wire harness routing. The harness may lay near the heater control cables. If this should happen, the harness may chafe and cause a malfunction of the ECM system.

To correct one of these vehicles it will be necessary to bandstrap the harness away from the heater control cables. Refer to the illustration. Inspect harness before strapping for damage. Repairs to the harness should be made at this time if necessary.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
